The final stop in the SE Asia backpacking trip - Kuala Lumpur. With only a few days here before flying back to the UK, the exploration was mostly dedicated to exploring worship places of different faiths.
Starting with the Batu Caves, a holy Hindu site with 272 colourful steps leading into the cave. Monkeys roamed freely around the site with some even sitting on people to be carried to the top. Inside were Hindu shrines, with people chanting and praying, and an opening at the top let light flood in.
Next was heading to Thean Hou Temple - a Buddhist temple. Incredible dramatic and vibrant carved details, many corners with outward facing dragons and traditional red hanging lanterns adorning the site. Expansive views of the city, from here you can see Warisan Merdeka.
Finally was Masjid Negara, the National Mosque of Malaysia. A mix of modern and brutalism styles of architecture, a surprise to say the least. Concrete pillars intended to feel like trees I would say achieved just that - drawing my gaze up and feeling the immensity of the surrounding.
Of course I couldn't leave KL without visiting the Petronas Twin Towers - at night the light pollution which even from afar flooded into the sky from the towers was astonishing. Up close the repetitive floors narrowing towards the top truly 'towered' over us.
This entire backpacking trip has been a once in a lifetime experience, I look forward to returning in the future to explore more! And I have to add aswell how exceedingly kind local people were throughout the trip.
