Second stop on the 2025 SE Asia backpacking trip was Singapore! With only a few days here it was a very whistlestop tour to explore the city and architecture. A late flight arrival meant first on the list was Newton Food Centre for dinner. An open food market, we tried lots of dishes recommended to us by the people - with the highlight being the famous Michelin star oyster omelette!
The following day included stops at The Gateway, Parkroyal Collection Pickering and Chinatown. Also seeing incredible architectural models from a specific model of Foster + Partners' South Beach Tower to a greater model of Singapore were highlights.
The Gardens by the Bay were one-of-a-kind. Light spectacles to the sheer height of the structures and then the alternative view from the lookout at the top of the Marina Bay Sands really emphasised the power the MBS has against the surrounding urban landscape. And with an additional fourth tower of the MBS planning to be built by 2030-31, it would be great to go back.
